We are pleased to announce the selection of Mark Christensen as the Assistant Principal of Desert Hills High School. Mark will replace Steve Showalter who was recently selected as the Principal of Water Canyon High School.
Mark Christensen grew up in the Hurricane valley where he attended Hurricane High School and participated in football, basketball and baseball in Region 9. He comes from a family of educators. His dad taught at HHS, mom at Dixie High (for only a few years) and his brother is the VP at Northridge High School. After high school, he spent a few years in Argentina serving a mission for his church where he became fluent in Spanish.
Mark is a graduate of SUU in the areas of Biology, Chemistry and Spanish. He started his teaching career at Dixie Middle School where he taught Integrated Science and Earth Systems. After a couple years he moved to Hurricane High School and has taught Spanish for the past 15 years. He served as the learning coach at HHS and really enjoyed providing support to the new teachers of the district. He has also coached Baseball, Golf and Girls Basketball. In addition he spent 12 years as the advisor to the Executive Council and to the class officers.
Mark is married to his high school sweetheart Autumn. They have 2 kids. One a junior at SUU majoring in Art Education and the other a junior at Hurricane High. When not at work or school Mark's family can be found in the mountains or traveling almost every weekend. They enjoy canyoneering, hiking, golfing, mountain biking as well as hunting and fishing.
Mark will dearly miss the students and teachers at HHS but is excited to begin a new chapter of his life at Desert Hills.
If you haven't already, please join with us in congratulating Mark Christensen!
