Mr. Steve Gustaveson was selected as the Principal of Pine View Middle School and will replace Mike Stephenson who will retire in June. Mr. Rod Broadhead will replace Mr. Neil Cottham as the Principal of Sandstone Elementary. Mr Cottham also plans to retire in June.
Steve Gustaveson was born and raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from Skyline High School. After graduation he served an LDS mission to Florida. He earned his Bachelor and Masters Degrees of Science and Psychology from Utah State University, and his Administrative Endorsement from Southern Utah University.
Steve taught music for 25 years in Salt Lake before moving to Southern Utah 15 years ago. He was a school counselor for 2 years and has been the Assistant Principal at Fossil Ridge for the past 11 years.
Steve and his wife Sandy are the parents of 3 beautiful daughters and have 10 grandchildren who are the highlight of their lives. As a family they enjoy being together, hiking, biking, going to baseball games (especially the LA Dodgers), motorcycles, golf, and camping.
Steve is grateful and excited for this new opportunity to join the faculty and staff at Pine View Middle School and work with the students and their parents.
Rod was born in St. George, Utah. His family moved away to Phoenix and Las Vegas for 10 years. During that time he attended elementary, junior high, and one year of high school. They moved back to St. George where Rod attended and graduated from Pine View High School in 1997, where his grandfather was his principal. In 1998 he left for Kobe Japan to serve a mission for his church. Rod received his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Dixie State University in 2006. He began teaching social studies and reading at Fossil Ridge Intermediate where he taught for 7 years. While teaching at Fossil Ridge, Rod received his masters degree and administrative endorsement. Rod has been the Title I Coordinator at Sandstone Elementary since 2013. In 2015 he received his special education license.
Rod met his wife Amy while attending Dixie State University. They have 5 children, David (12), Zachary (9), Jacob (7), Makayla (4), and Joshua (2). His children have attended Sandstone Elementary with him, which has been amazing. He enjoys eating lunch with them and stopping in their classrooms for a visit!
Rod enjoys spending time with his family. Life is busy and wonderful all at the same time, keeping up with everything in which his children are involved. His wife Amy is from Idaho so he loves going to Idaho every spare second he gets to enjoy family and cool down in the summer.
Rod is excited to be the principal of Sandstone Elementary. He is extremely grateful for his wife, parents, grandparents and all of his mentors in life that have helped him along the way.
Please join with us in welcoming each new principal and board member to their new positions.
