May is National Bike Month
National Bike month is here and we wanted to bring to your attention a few items happening this month with the Washington County School District and the City of St. George.
Wednesday, May 4- Bike and Walk to School Day! The St. George ATC has selected Little Valley Elementary School as our featured school for 2016. We will have several volunteers at the school Wednesday morning observing students who ride to school. There will be several prizes for classes with the most participation. This is a great way to get kids and parents thinking about finding active transportation modes to school. For more info: http://www.walkbiketoschool.org/ready/about-the-events/bike-to-school-day
Friday, May 6- George Streetfest and Iron Kids Fun Run- Members of SUBA and the STG Active Transportation Committee will be staffing a free bike valet from5:30 pm to 9:30 pm next to the water features on the north end of the Main Street Plaza building close to the Park in front of Zion’s Bank. Attached is the ad for the bike valet. Please feel free to share it on social media all week!!!
Monday, May 16- “Bike With Pike” Event- Come enjoy a hot dog BBQ, DJ music, bike rodeo and ride your bike with Mayor Pike around the Mayor’s Loop beginning and ending at the Confluence Trailhead in St. George. Festivities begin at 6:00 pm and end at 8:00 pm. This is a very low-key fun ride and the perfect opportunity to ride with family and friends.
May 16-May 20- Bike to Work Week- We are asking everyone in St. George to commute to work the whole week or at least one day during the week. The City will be asking citizens to post photos to Facebook of their bikes at work throughout the week.
Friday May 20- Bike to Work Day- Mayor Pike is challenging everyone to ride their bikes to work on this day. SUBA, SW Public Health and the ATC will be sponsoring a rest stop for commuters downtown at the corner of Main Street and St. George Boulevard from 7:00 am to 9:00 am. Commuters will be able to fuel up with some donuts, coffee, juice, water and all of the essentials on their way to work.
Saturday, May 21- Road Respect- Washington County will be the first officially designated "County Road Respect Community" in the state and we are celebrating that achievement at Enterprise Elementary School. The event is being hosted by the Washington County Sheriff's Department and will include free kids bike helmets, kids bike skills rodeo and other fun activities. There will also be a drawing for a free bike compliments of ESpokes.
